The Muni Update
Jul 15, 2024

Good Morning,
This past week I was able to complete a lot of spraying to control clover and other broadleaf weeds. The only areas left to spray are the rough on holes 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 17, and 18. I hope to complete these areas this coming week. The majority of clover has been eliminated in the treated areas. They are looking very nice even though the grass is starting to become dormant in non irrigated areas.
I have also treated all of the fairways, tees, and green surrounds with an insecticide. This treatment helps control the grub population in the turfgrass which reduces the risk of skunk damage in the month of August. I will spray a few more areas of the rough this coming week. We really see the skunk pressure in mid August once they start digging for grubs. I am hopeful the damage will be minimal again this season.
We have been doing a lot of hand spraying on the greens to control the isolated dry areas. The high temperatures have really started to dry out the golf course at a rapid rate. We spent a lot of time Saturday and Sunday hand spraying these areas. Once again today we are back working on keeping these areas wet to help control the isolated dry areas.
The irrigation system has caused a few issues over the past handful of days. We were seeing a high voltage reading on Tuesday night and I was unable to get the pump reset. I did water with the back up pump to make sure greens and tees were irrigated. I was able to get everything reset and functioning properly by Thursday.
The very high temperatures have created a lot of stress on the turfgrass. Today looks like the last really hot day for a while. The cooler nighttime temperatures will be a welcome relief.
This morning we are finishing a senior men golf event with 80 gofers participating. Friday People 4 Pets will be hosting a gathering at the clubhouse. This was originally a rescheduled golf event but their numbers were a little low because of the reschedule. Saturday we will be hosting the Hunting with Heroes golf event. This is generally a very big event and we are looking forward to another successful turnout this year.
Please reach out if you have any questions or would like further information on a topic. Enjoy the remainder of the day!
