The Muni Update
May 25, 2025

Good Morning,
This past week we had a lot of cold days with rain or light mist. This weather affected several golf leagues and diminished open golf for several days of the week. The rainfall was definitely nice and helped the golf course tremendously. Staff was very busy working in the poor weather to have the golf course in great condition as we welcomed the Memorial Day weekend.
Our golf greens experienced spotty areas of damage from the winter weather and lack of snow cover. We have been hand topdressing these areas with a sand/soil mix to help provide the bentgrass an opportunity to slowly fill in these areas. It's a slow process and will also include plugging areas and adding small plugs of turf to the worst areas of the greens. A foliar fertilizer application along with a wetting agent will be applied in the next few days.
Herbicide applications have been the main priority for golf course maintenance this past week. I have been able to start spraying by 4:30 AM the past three mornings and have covered a lot of acres to control the presence of broadleaf weeds. Specifically dandelions and clover seem to be the most prevalent.
I was able to treat 72 acres of the golf course in the past three mornings. This brings the total to 124 acres of the 164 acres of golf course property treated for the control of weeds. I should be able to complete the remaining part of the golf course and out of play areas in a couple of mornings if the weather cooperates.
We are already starting to see a lot of the weeds curling over and starting to slowly fade from the landscape. I plan to start spraying again very early tomorrow morning to complete several holes before golf gets busy by 9:00 AM. There are out of play areas, including the clubhouse grounds, as well as holes #3, #4, #7, #14, and #15 that need to be treated. It will be a nice task to have completed.
Staff will start working on our landscape project in the next week or two. We will be removing some of the landscape blocks toward the front of the landscaping by the tee boxes followed by the removal of rocks, mulch, weed barrier, and plant materials. We will also be adding soil and sod around the perimeter of these landscaping areas to give them a nice clean and natural look. This will be a very lengthy process and will take a lot of the summer to make progress.
The golf board recently had a discussion in regard to the size of golf groups playing on the golf course. We already have a rule in place that states golfers are not allowed to play in groups larger than four unless permission is granted by staff. We are trying very diligently to enforce this rule and would appreciate the cooperation of all golfers to remain in groups no larger than four. When the golf course is busy it becomes a major problem with people combining groups larger than a foursome.
It's been a beautiful weekend so far and hopefully that will continue for the next couple of days. The Muni would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of those that have served or are currently serving our Country. We pay special tribute to those that have sacrificed to allow us the freedom we live with every day. Enjoy the remainder of the Memorial Day weekend!
