The Muni Update

Good Morning,

The past week equipment maintenance was the main priority at The Muni. Off season reel sharpening was completed once the small repairs were made to each reel and they were attached to the appropriate traction unit. The height of cut was set on each reel in preparation of the first mowing in 2026. The height of cut is set a little bit higher at the start of the season and is slowly lowered as the growing season begins. As an example, greens are mowed at 1/8″ during the season and 5/32″ to start and finish each golf season.

During the off season each piece of maintenance equipment as well as rental carts are serviced with fluids changed and filters replaced. It is also important to make sure everything is greased not just during the off season but regularly during the golf season. Small repairs are then completed followed by a nice bubble bath to allow the paint to really shine. This project will continue for the next several weeks.

Security cameras have been installed to provide security coverage at all of the cart sheds, the maintenance facility, and additional areas of the clubhouse. This will allow us to monitor these areas during the off season when the customer traffic is at a minimum. It’s unfortunate the threat of people stealing property seems to increase each year.

The Golf Board met and part of the discussion was the rates for the 2026 golf season. Recently we adjusted the rates for our rental carts and green fees. At the January meeting there will be additional discussion and action taken to propose an approximate 3% rate increase along with slight increases to our punch cards.

Golfers can easily pay their fees on the website at the 2025 rates until later in the month of January. Simply visit www.spencermunigolf.com and log into your profile. Click on the purchase membership or punch card options to make your selection. Cart storage is also listed under the membership section. Gift certificates can also be purchased at city hall or contacting me at the clubhouse.

Kipp Davis completed his mural on the SW exit in the clubhouse. This is his rendition of the 12th hole at The Muni. It is such a beautiful piece of art and we look forward to sharing it with our golfers for many years to come. It was very impressive to watch this project progress each day and watch Kipp capture the beauty of the golf course through his eyes.

Snow removal also kept us busy this past week. It is definitely a change of pace after receiving hardly any snow during last off season. The snow is definitely a benefit to the golf course turfgrass by providing a nice insulation blanket. This offers protection from the cold temperatures and chilling winter winds. Snow totals from last weekend were 13.5 inches at the golf course followed by another six inches yesterday.

It’s been nice to see some of our golfing population stopping by the clubhouse to purchase clothing for Holiday gifts. We still have some of our logo tumblers, stocking hats, sweatshirts, light jackets, t-shirts, and logo flags available for gift ideas.

That is a wrap from The Muni for another week as we inch closer to the Holidays and completion of 2025. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like additional information on a topic. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend!
