Above normal weather has provided us with some beautiful Fall golf at The Muni. It’s been a very nice change of pace after all the rainfall in September. The golf course still has a few soft areas, but for the most part, it is back to normal playing conditions. Staff has done a fantastic job maintaining the golf course at a high level all season.
Thursday morning, we applied an 18-9-18 contec granular fertilizer on the greens at a rate of 0.50 pounds per 1000 square feet. This application will provide the turfgrass nutrients through the remainder of the Fall golf season and into the Spring of 2027.
After applying the fertilizer, we irrigated the greens for six minutes per station to help break down the prills. The entire golf course, except the fairways, has been irrigated multiple times with reduced run times. Plenty of moisture remains in the upper soil profile but the very top portion is starting to dry out. We will continue lighter irrigation cycles due to the higher temperatures and windy conditions this weekend.
We hosted a two-person senior best-shot event on Wednesday with 46 golfers participating. This was the second year we hosted this format and we received a lot of positive feedback from the golfers. We received great support from our local golfers and a good turnout from out-of-town players.
Monday morning the grounds staff will begin aerifying the greens. The practice green and front nine will be closed on Monday until we complete aerifying all the greens. On Tuesday, the back nine holes will be closed so we can complete the aeration. The other nine holes will be open for golf each of these days.
The entire golf course will close at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, for the District Cross Country Meet. Open golf will be available on the nine holes not being aerified by staff.
There is still plenty of time to enjoy some beautiful golf days at The Muni. We are offering all day golf with a cart for $35. The 2027 membership special is also available through the end of the season. Purchase any of your 2027 fees now and get the remainder of 2026 at no additional cost. These payments can be made online at our website or in the clubhouse.
