Good Morning,
This past week we received 3.75 inches of rainfall at The Muni, bringing our total to 10.15 inches for September. The soil is currently saturated, leading to increased surface runoff and challenging our daily maintenance practices.
Earlier this week, I marked the GPS locations for 30 new trees arriving and being planted in October. These trees were secured through a grant coordinated by Bob Fullhart, Parks and Recreation Director. They will be placed in the former landscaping area by the #2 tees, as well as the roughs between the #5 and #13, #5 and #6, and #6 and #7 fairways.

The Spencer Municipal Golf Course Board has also launched a campaign to gain community support for replenishing our tree population. After removing over 300 trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer infestation, we now need to plant a total of 700 trees to complete our Tree Master Plan.
On Friday, I met with Ross McWhirter from KCN and representatives from Blacktop Services to discuss the cart path overlay project. Due to the wet weather, the project is now scheduled to begin on October 26, weather permitting, and may extend into November. Our goal remains to complete this project this fall.

Because of the updated cart path schedule, we will now aerate the greens the week of October 5. We will be pulling cores, so this process will take longer than our routine maintenance aerifications.
Here is the list of upcoming tournaments scheduled at The Muni:
- On September 30, we are hosting a senior (age 50+) two person best shot with a 10:00 AM shotgun start. The cost is $60 per team. The event is open to men and women. This will use a regular two person best shot format. There will be no mulligans or other extras.
- On October 4, we will host the Rocktoberfest four person best shot tournament with a 10:00 AM shotgun start. The cost is $120 per team. The event is open to men and women. This will use a regular four person best shot format. There will be no mulligans or other extras.
- On October 13, we are hosting the Siouxland Conference Cross Country meet starting at 4:00 PM. The golf course must be cleared by 2:00 PM. The clubhouse will be closed for this event.
- On October 18, we are hosting our annual Chili Open, a four-person best shot tournament with a 10:00 AM shotgun start. The cost is $160 per team with a portion of the entry fee going towards our tree replacement program. This event is open to men and women. This will use a regular four person best shot format. There will be no mulligans or other extras.
- On November 8, we will host the Frigid Fall four person best shot tournament with a 10:00 AM shotgun start. The cost is $120 per team. This event is open to men and women. This will use a regular four person best shot format. There will be no mulligans or other extras.
