Good Morning,

It was a very busy week at The Muni. Our plans for the week changed multiple times due to the early-week hot weather and the arrival of the new plant materials. We needed to complete our daily scheduled tasks, water the trees and sod, and prepare the landscaping areas for the plant materials.

The plant materials arrived on Wednesday morning and the staff quickly unloaded the delivery into the maintenance facility. Crystal O’Clair, Tami Werts, and Caroline Nelson were on site Thursday morning to start the planting process. Crystal created the plans for all of our renovated landscaping areas and organized the planting. I am very thankful and appreciative for the volunteer work from these Master Gardeners.

We completed our daily maintenance practices promptly on Thursday and Friday. The staff then assisted the ladies with the new plant materials. The high temperatures complicated the process of placing over 400 plant materials in the correct space on each landscaping bed. I cannot express enough thanks to Crystal, Tami, Caroline, and the maintenance staff for all their work on this project.

Significant work remains to complete our landscaping renovation project. We still need to complete the installation of the new flower bed on #5 blue tee and upgrade the waterfall landscaping. Preen will be applied to the soil in the landscaping areas followed by new cedar mulch. Hand watering will also continue regularly to keep these new plant materials healthy.

I communicated further with Kruse, Cate, and Nelson to discuss the cart path overlay project scheduled for this Fall. They will meet with potential contractors soon to gather information that will help determine a time frame. We have discussed several options. There is a strong possibility the golf course may close for a week, in October, to complete this project safely and on time. I will share more information as we move forward.

The next few weeks will be very busy as we finish many to-do items on the golf course grounds. Here is a list of some of those upcoming items:

  • Finish hauling sand to the traps around the golf course.
  • Complete landscaping preparation in unfinished areas.
  • Fertilize and mulch the landscaping areas.
  • Treat the ash trees with an insecticide to control the Emerald Ash Borer.
  • Fertilizer and fungicide applications.

June is less than a day away and will bring several golf events at The Muni. School is out and golf will become even more popular over the next several months. Our remaining seasonal staff is now available for the clubhouse and the grounds to accommodate the additional golfers.

Please understand that playing 18 holes of golf will take longer on most days due to a full tee sheet. It is also important to remember foursomes take precedence while golfing. Groups of one or two should not expect to play through other groups to speed up their round of golf.

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend. The skies are a little gray today but it’s still a great opportunity to spend some time outside. Please reach out with any questions or additional information on a topic.
